Coach Craig Case

Volleyball Coach

Experienced. Collaborative. Driven. Student-Athlete Centered.

Professional Traits

Passionate

I have a passion for Higher Education and the students we work with.  That passion is exhibited when advocating for students, trying to create great student experiences, or promoting student success and helping them be most prepared for life post-graduation.

Student-Centered

As I've grown within the profession and working with students I've learned that being "student-centered" isn't just being liked.  I now view "student-centered" as in making decisions and taking actions which will have the best benefit on students.

Reliable

As a coach it's imperative I show up every day ready to be my best.  Further, I also need to be available and willing to help others if they're struggling.  Frequently I offer assistance to others if they are struggling and when asked to be somewhere I will be there knowing others are depending on me.

Problem Solver

I have developed a set of skills that allows me to handle problems seamlessly while being able to find efficient and effective solutions.  I am able to see problems from a myriad of angles and this helps find solutions others might not find.

Resilient

One of the things you learn in collegiate athletics is how to bounce back from setbacks or losses.  Remaining positive, focused, and steadfast towards goals is incredibly important at all levels of an institution despite setbacks, obstacles, or unfavorable conditions.

Efficient

Being efficient is becoming increasingly more important as we're steadily being asked to provide increased levels of excellence with less resources, time, and support.  So being able to creatively do "more with less" is a premium ability and trait.

Work History

May 2010 - December 2022

Texas A&M University - Commerce

Head Volleyball Coach

In a 13 year career at TAMUC I was able to do a wide variety of jobs, serve on committees, and be involved with multiple initiatives that extended well beyond the reach as my position of "Coach."  These experiences thread all my efforts and energies to provide students with the best experience possible.

August 2006 - May 2010

Valley City State University

Head Volleyball Coach / Instructor / Sports Information Director / Director of Intramurals

As a member of a small rural North Dakota university I was compelled and willing to do everything within my abilities and energies to help the institution thrive.  I served in multiple roles and was able to impact the university in a very positive way.  In addition, I was able to develop a culture within our volleyball team that not only promoted success on the court but has created lifelong bonds players still share today.

July 2005 - July 2006

St. Gregory's University

Head Volleyball Coach/Instructor/Interim Director of Athletics

I was hired by SGU to restart their volleyball program which had been dormant for about 10 years.  Due to the length of time with no program essentially we started from scratch.  Despite being hired during the summer we were able to field a team which despite record was very competitive and provide a memorable student-athlete experience.  With an already diverse and established set of skills I was asked by the University to serve as Interim Athletic Director and help restructure the department to help foster future success.

August 2002 - June 2005

Northern State University

Assistant Volleyball Coach / Instructor / Assistant Athletic Development / Assistant Compliance / Interim Sports Information Director

The head coach I worked for at NSU was very involved in departmental activities as the Compliance Director and Senior Women's Administrator.  As a result, I was able to get involved in multiple areas of the department most young coaches aren't afforded access to.  Under great administrative leadership within the department I not only grew as a volleyball coach but also as a professional within Higher Education and Collegiate Athletics.

August 2000 - May 2002

St. Lawrence University

Graduate Assistant Volleyball Coach / Fitness Center Supervisor / Assistant Intramural Director

In my first job in Higher Education I was able to learn about college athletics as well as the collegiate side of volleyball.  It's amazing how some of the formative experiences in 2000 still hold up today.  For example, the student was, and continues to be, the main focus and their experience and success should drive efforts and decision making.

To this day I'm still thankful for the opportunities I was provided in my first collegiate coaching experience.
